Tissue or also called tissue paper is a very absorbent hygiene paper made of cellulose. This multi-ply paper type is mostly used for paper handkerchiefs or paper napkins.

Tissue paper for napkins is manufactured on special paper machines. This involves a crepe cylinder enclosed by two drying hoods, rather than several drying cylinders as in conventional paper machines. In the cylinder, the paper is dried in hundredths of a second at approx. 460° C. The paper is then dried in the cylinder.

The grammage of tissue is normally around 15 to 30 g/m², but can also reach lower values down to 5 g/m². It should be noted that determining the grammage of tissue is not very easy because of the creped surface.
